Kenevo above knee prosthetic leg
Kenevo: Reclaim your sense of security
A new option for increased confidence
Persons with lower mobility requirements usually receive a leg prosthesis that incorporates a mechanical knee joint. Now there’s a new option designed to provide you with a greater sense of security – the Kenevo prosthetic knee, with built-in microprocessors.
Microprocessor-controlled knees have been shown to reduce the risk of uncontrolled falls by up to 80% in moderately active persons, as well as improve the indicators of fall risk, such as fear of falling.
Go to the Advantages for you tab below to learn how Kenevo can help keep you safe from falling and help you regain your sense of security.
Integrated Bluetooth technology permits simple communication with the knee joint. An existing connection is indicated by an LED.
AXON tube adapters
Sensors in the tube adapter measure the ankle moment and the vertical force acting on the joint. The sensor data help make a natural movement pattern possible. For the first time walking after a leg amputation, this is a valuable technology.
Carbon fibre frame
In order to withstand the varied demands of everyday life, the frame is made of carbon - an especially strong, high-grade and lightweight material.
Rechargeable battery and knee angle sensor
A rechargeable battery provides the energy required to control the joint. The knee angle sensor provides important information to precisely determine the forces acting on the prosthesis.
Inductive charging unit
The inductive battery charger is magnetically attached to the back of the knee joint - easy charging through the thin clothing fabric is therefore possible.
Inertial Motion Unit and Electronics
Gyroscope and acceleration sensors let you determine position and speed in space. A microprocessor receives the signals and controls the motion of the joint in real time. An important prerequisite for high safety and to adapt to the skills of the prosthesis user.
The hydraulic unit is controlled by the microprocessor. It generates movement resistance, allowing adaptation to the individual needs of the prosthesis user.
What you need to know
Advantages for you
Stand and walk securely
With Kenevo, you can stand securely without having to worry about becoming unstable as you shift your weight. Kenevo is specially designed to enable you to take small steps safely – even while walking backward.
Change positions with ease
Do you sometimes need to pause a moment as you are sitting down or getting back up to a standing position? Kenevo enables you to ease down into a chair and back up again without feeling like you’re falling. You can also change positions without manually adjusting your leg, so you can roam hands-free, just like you used to do.
Move with confidence
There’s no need to avoid crowds for fear that you’ll be knocked off your feet by a little jostle. Kenevo allows you to recover your balance if you stumble or experience a slight bump. With Kenevo, you can also walk down stairs at your own pace, step over step.
Works well with walking aids
Kenevo is fine tuned to support the way people walk with walkers, crutches and canes, so it will support you every step of the way – no matter how you get there! If you sometimes use a wheelchair, Kenevo won’t get in your way. Kenevo’s wheelchair function enables you to keep adequate clearance between the prosthesis and the ground, so you can maneuver easily.
Adapts to your changing needs
Programmable options allow your prosthetist to adjust the level of support Kenevo provides so it is right for what you need right now. Kenevo can provide appropriate stability you as you challenge yourself to meet your recovery goals through rehab and as you may experience situations where you need more support.
Less worry for you and your family
As Kenevo helps you regain your independence, you can worry less about having to rely on family and other caregivers – and they will worry less about you. Kenevo can help you feel more confident in regaining your place in the social life of your family and friends, just like old times.
How Kenevo works
How Kenevo works
The new Kenevo knee is based on Ottobock’s ground breaking C-Leg microprocessor technology.
However, unlike C-Leg, Kenevo is fine-tuned for the specific needs of lower mobility persons – those who tend to take shorter, shuffling steps and who may use walking aids occasionally. As a result, Kenevo helps keep you safe and feeling secure as you go about your daily activities or challenge yourself through the rehab process.
Strong, durable and lightweight carbon frame
Patient weight: maximum 275 lbs/125 kg*
Weight of the knee joint only: about 915 g, or 2 pounds (lightest MPK in the world)
Height of the knee joint with tube adapter: 10.6 inches/270 mm to 19.3 inches/490 mm
Operating time with fully charged battery: Approximately 24 hours
Maximum possible knee flexion angle without flexion stop: 124°
* All components of your prosthesis must be appropriately rated to reach this weight limit. See your prosthetist for specifics.
